ART ASSOCIATION CONTEST

kuzana ogg

Happy Wednesday, friends. You know what would make this Wednesday even happier? A pinterest contest by the name of Art Association? Yessss. Let’s do it.

Here’s how it works:

Artsy Forager and I have cooked up one awesome project that involves art, Pinterest, and YOU… Art Association (think word association) involves creating a Pinterest board around one work of art and all of the things you think of while looking at it. Anything and everything that comes to mind will be pinned… no holding back now.

We’re doing things a bit differently this time. The winner will be randomly selected. That’s right. Artsy Forager and I are staying out of it this time. You pin whatever your heart desires and you’ll be entered to win a rad prize and some definite bragging rights. Let’s get started, eh?

This month’s inspiration is Lily by Kuzana Ogg

lily by kuzana ogg

The fun color palette of Lily made me think of swimming pools, flowers, and pink summery hues… it’s finally warming up here in Denver, my mind is clearly occupied with all things summer!

art association contest

Oh I can’t wait to see your pins! But before we get to pinning, let’s take a look at your prize. Woot!

art association contest

The winner will receive this 5×5″ etching, Pom. Two quick + awesome facts about this print:
01. the title means “Spring” in Korean. Kuzana actually lived in Korea in the mid ’90s where she taught English. So cool.
02. The print was made at the New Grounds Print Workshop in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Kuzana was awarded their Rachel Allen Scholarship. SO cool.

Okay, let’s pin.

ART ASSOCIATION CONTEST

Jessica Brilli

I know. Project Brown Bag this morning and now Art Association? I’m gettin’ cray up in here. Let’s keep the good times rolling, shall we?

This month Artsy Forager and I teamed up with the incredible artist Jessica Brilli. When I saw her portfolio, I knew I wanted to work with her on an Art Association contest… I mean, how many fun images and ideas come to mind when you see old school telephones, cameras, and typewriters? These objects have so much history, I have a feeling this round of Art Association is gonna be our best yet…!

Before we get to the rules + your awesome prize, here’s what I saw when I looked at Jessica’s painting of a Brownie Camera. Clearly I thought of real brownies… with salted caramel creme filling. I also thought of other old school objects, that rich yellow color, and fun photos + snapshots. Oh you guys are gonna have fun with this one.

One look at Karen Schnepf’s collage paintings and I was in LOVE. The layers of bold colors paired with black & white stripes? Oh my gah, beautiful. Artsy Forager and I knew immediately she’d be the perfect candidate for our Art Association contest.

I had a blast pinning anything and everything I came across that reminded me of Karen’s amazing painting, Wedding Day…

LOVE n 06 autumn winter 2011

Holy amazing oil painting skills, guys. If you’ve ever tried using oil paints, you know what an incredible achievement these works are…

In her Trash series, Italian artist Stefania Fersini paints discarded crumpled pages from fashion magazines. Picked from the recycle bin and recreated on an enlarged scale, Stefania’s work represents + critiques society’s obsession with consumerism and appearance.

Beautiful, well-executed, and a deeper message? I’d say this is a contemporary art win. High five, Stefania.
