As I work on expanding artsocial into a boutique design studio (yay!), I’ve been thinking a lot about what it takes to be a “professional.” Degrees? Experience? Mad skills? Passion?
When trying to start a new venture or grow your business, there’s often a feeling of not being “there” yet, not quite a professional. Like professionalism only comes after a certain amount of work is done.
But the more I think about it, the more I think declaring yourself a professional is actually THE 1ST STEP. What if that’s the very first thing we did? Declared our dreams & intentions with absolute certainty?
There’s safety in saying you’re “trying” to do xyz – or – that you want to do xyz “someday,” “eventually,” “in the future.” It’s so much safer… cuz what if it doesn’t work out or everyone laughs at you – ahhhhh!
Well that kind of thinking will keep your dream in “someday” forevs, yo. Be aware (and beware!) of those thoughts…
How are you thinking and talking about your dreams? Do you “dress” the part? Or are you staying in the comfort zone of “someday”?
